Harvest Farm
Harvest Farm, located in Waianae, Hawaii is centrally located to quickly access markets throughout the islands.  Founded by ex-physics professor Dan Dong in 1995, Harvest Farms grows over a dozen varieties of culinary herbs including basil, mint, oregano, rosemary, and thyme.  Together with his wife Barbara and a crew of 12, Dan’s 30 acre farm includes eight acres that are farmed organically, with organic certification by Oregon Tilth.

A brand new refrigerated packing facility was recently constructed to offer our customers enhanced product quality and safety, and boasts separate packing and storage areas for basil, which prefers a warmer environment than other herbs.

This year, Dan’s green thumb (not to mention the rest of his fingers!) has also provided tens of thousands of pounds of high quality herbs for his mainland extended family at HerbCo, Generation Farms, Rocky Mountain Herbs and Michigan Fine Herbs.  It’s really amazing to see what a talented farmer blessed with a warm climate and great soil can achieve!

Food Safety

GAP, GMP, HACCP.  You may have heard of these acronyms that are becoming increasingly important in our quest for better food safety. But what do these terms mean?

GAP, or Good Agricultural Practices, focuses on the four basic components of production: soil, water, hands, and surfaces. By developing guidelines to address potential risks associated with each of these components, both the quality and safety of harvested produce can be enhanced.

GMP, or Good Manufacturing Practices, is the cornerstone of food quality and safety. GMP includes a food safety plan that incorporates water, product and facility testing.

HACCP, or Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point, is a systematic seven step process that identifies “Critical Control Points” in the production process—and seeks to eliminate the risk posed at those points.

HerbCo implements all three processes - GMP, GAP and HACCP - in its day to day operations.
