For over 25 years Generation Farms has been the Southwest’s benchmark grower of fresh culinary herbs and edible flowers. We’ve been in business since 1984, and currently ship throughout the United States to grocery stores, food service companies, and fine restaurants from our farm in sunny Rice, Texas. Our fresh herbs are shipped regionally by truck; shipments to the East and West coasts are air freighted overnight, 7 days a week.

With over 50 acres of farmland and over 325,000 square feet of greenhouse space, we control growing operations from seedlings to harvesting to packing to shipping. Out of season, we buy from carefully vetted sources in the United States and Mexico. A new packing and cooling facility was built in 2007 to better serve our existing customers and allow for expansion. In 2009, a 25,000 square foot greenhouse was purchased in Waxahachie and retrofitted to grow hydroponic living basil (hyperlink).

In January of 2003, recognizing the growing interest and importance of the organic movement, Generation Farms was certified organic by the Texas Department of Agriculture . As Ethan Milkes, Generation Farms principal noted, “getting organically certified just made sense: it’s better for the land, better for our farm workers, and better for our customers.” To ensure organic compliance by our outside suppliers, tests for organic compliance are conducted on a random basis throughout the year. Generation Farms also put into action good agricultural practices (GAP), good manufacturing practices (GMP) and a HACCP program, all of which are described in greater detail here.  Additionally, in 2011 Generation Farms became the first member of the HerbCo family to pass the very stringent Primus GFS Packinghouse, Ranch and Harvest Crew certifications.   

Today, our farm serves over 500 grocery stores in five states throughout the Southwest and Southeast, offering both national brand and private label opportunities. We offer a complete line of conventionally grown and certified organic herbs, and recently introduced our Raices Latinas line of bunched herbs, with a south of the border taste!

Rounding out our fresh herb selection are a number of specialty items: living basil, organic lettuces, lavender, and lemon grass. This expanded selection allows our grocery customers one-stop shopping for their entire herb needs.
